Australia Awards Cambodia

Pre-departure Process

Pre-departure Training (PDT) is provided for Australia Awards Scholarships recipients in Phnom Penh. Selected Master's candidates who have not met the IELTS requirements for Australian university admission (a minimum of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0) are required to attend up to 12 months of full time pre departure training (PDT) in Cambodia prior to departure to Australia. PDT is compulsory and full time. Awardees are not permitted to undertake employment during the pre-departure training and any pre-departure English language training. However, short absences from the Program may be considered on a case by case basis.

Awardees who possess the prerequisite IELTS result at the time of their award will undertake a compulsory and full-time PDT of six weeks.

During this period, a monthly stipend is paid: $200 per month for Phnom Penh based awardees and $240 per month for those based outside of Phnom Penh.

Note: Provisional Awardee must attain the minimum English language proficiency of an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no sub-band less than 6.0 (or TOEFL equivalent), irrespective of any lesser English language requirements of their chosen university. A failure to achieve the required IELTS score after 12 months of pre-departure English language training will result in the awardee’s provisional Australia Awards Scholarships being withdrawn and they will not be permitted to progress to undertake their scholarship in Australia.
