Launch of Australia Awards Scholarships for Study in Australia in 2015
On 12 February, the Australian Ambassador, H.E. Ms Alison Burrows and H.E. Dr Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, formally launched the Australia Awards Scholarship round for 2015 at the Sofitel.
Ambassador Burrows and Dr Naron also welcomed home 47 past Cambodian Australia Award recipients who graduated from Australian universities in 2013 in fields including international revenue administration, health economics, integrated water management, engineering and urban design.
Ambassador Burrows emphasised the commitment of the Australian Government to providing opportunities for all people. Dr Naron stressed the importance of education and provided an overview of the reform initiatives for Cambodia’s education system. Two recently returned recipients, Ms Ly Sokleap and Mr La Veha talked about their experience of studying in Australia, how the studies increased their knowledge and skills and how this will benefit their workplaces in Cambodia.
Together with Ambassador Burrows, Dr Naron and the recently returned Australia Awards recipients, nearly 200 guests celebrated the launch, representing RGC ministries, the private sector and civil society organisations and the Australian Alumni Association Cambodia.
