Forty High-Achieving Australia Awards Recipients Departing to Australia early 2014

The Australian Ambassador, HE Ms Alison Burrows, and HE Mr Suos Kong, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Rural Development, bid farewell to 40 high-achieving Cambodians who have been awarded Australia Awards Scholarships to study in Australia in early 2014. The farewell function was held at the Cambodiana Hotel on 11 December 2013.

The Ambassador said that “the Australia Awards Scholarships are a very important part of Australia’s development cooperation, not only in Cambodia but also across the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. Scholarships are an investment in human resource development and help to build long-term and enduring personal, professional and academic links across the region and the globe.”

Joining the Ambassador to congratulate the recipients, HE Mr Suos Kong noted that he was “proud to witness the remarkable achievement of another group of Cambodian scholars leaving for world class education and for exposure to international experiences.”

As a departing recipient, Mr Chey Virak felt happy to bring his parents and his supervisor to the event which recognised their importance in terms of contributing to his success.
